The market is open
We worked alongside Globo’s design team to redesign one of the worlds’ most played sports fantasy game – Cartola.
Cartola is a smash hit in Brazil every time the national football league season begins. The game was formerly called Cartola FC, but was simply renamed to Cartola as a part of the rebranding project.
A spin-off product was also created: Cartola Express, a fantasy game for short-term play, limited to each round of the league. We were asked for a fresh take on the brand, whilst maintaining the vintage energy of the original logo.
For this project, we decided to use for the first time a logo sprint method. We designed dozens of logotypes on a short period of time, when the whole Plau team was involved on finding quick, but well thought of, solutions for Cartola. The brief in the beginning was somewhat open so that approach helped Globo to pinpoint the right approach for the following steps.
The fun part is, our first brief specified we should be working on the logo only, but we ended up having the chance to work on the identity as a whole. We got to design, for example, the structure for Cartola’s posts on social media, for which we set a grid, type palette and emoji set.
For the posts, we had to incorporate the laid back and playful language that is typical of football and the Cartola community. Cartola’s market is open for this year and we can’t wait to see the new brand identity in action in the game!
